Typical store-bought pumice is actually ground into a fine powder and then glued back together with an adhesive so that it fits into a mold for uniform construction. Mother Nature, however, crafts hers so that each piece is unique. The last time Mt.Shasta erupted was the late 1700s, so these are at least that old! When the pressure of molten lava forces gases beneath the surface to escape they leap miles into the air! As they return to the earth’s surface, they cool and form these porous stones which so happen to be perfect for keeping our heels smooth, our brick grafitti-free, and our chinchilla’s teeth whittled.
